Hey Mike, I understand what you’re talking about, but I think you have to think about the complete overhaul Venables has had to perform at OU. The lazy narrative so many put out there is that he took over a talented 11-2 team and went 6-7 in year 1 with it. The roster was actually a burning wreck, and without a healthy Dillon Gabriel they probably don’t win 4 games. You’ll notice that only one defensive player went with Riley to SC, and he’s already bolted, but when two 5-Star QBs leave town at the same time, it’s a bit of a stretch to call it an 11-2 team he took the reigns of … I won’t bore you with all the wonderful strength and conditioning issues TBOW left behind, but take a look at SC now and you’ll get the picture. In the end, winning 10 and beating the best Texas team in 15 years just one year removed from that flaming pile of crap was probably worthy of $400k and two more years that keeps the rest of the SEC from being able to tell recruits he’s out of there in 2 years so that he doesn’t continue beating their asses for the best defensive players despite being “Brokelahoma.” I enjoy your show more all the time, especially when you tell the truth about Texas. Venables seems like a good guy. Given his performance so far, it's probably not a good idea to lock him in long term. Sooners have had trouble with special teams, offensive time management, roster management, and QB management in particular, all things directly under the control of the head coach. Truth is, he looks like he's really only a defensive guy, not a top notch head coach. SEC teams must have been negatively recruiting against OU by telling recruits that Venables might not last.

He had to rebuild this program after Lincoln Riley left it's obvious that Lincoln Riley was recruiting for USC while he was still on the Oklahoma payroll he gutted this team of a lot of their players coaches and recurrence what he done to Oklahoma would have destroyed a lot of programs but Oklahoma will be just fine he actually done Oklahoma a huge favor by leaving because we would have been in trouble going into the southeast conference with him as the coach

We believe in BV and his vision he brought to OU. Based on relationships, faith and accountability through out the whole program. Football team has an average 3.0 gpa the highest it’s been in program history. Recruiting has been excellent and we made improvements from year 1 to 2. That and like you say it really wasn’t that much of raise compared to other SEC coaches.

I started watching you you and shane because basically I had too. And i give props to you for not counting OU out but what you dont understand is that is where we strive. Keep up the good work. I am having a hard time following the SEC. Best conference in America thus why its been a thorn in my side. Still OU is going to beat Texas. Horns down.

As an OU fan I think BV still has a lot to prove. I’m not sold on his in game coaching yet. Still too many delays and goofy decisions in my opinion. This year will show us a lot with a young QB and new OC.

Hey man, I know you don't follow the program that closely. This is nothing but a 2 year extension with an additional 1 to 1.5 million more per year. That puts him 8th in the SEC. Not much to sneeze at, but one thing it does it add a little stability and recruits love that when considering a school.

The way Paul Finebaum describes the SEC is the way i see Oklahoma.

You guys need to take another look at Missouris recruiting and who some of the teams that their winning against.

Missouri schedule is still tuff at 27th in the country.

He got extended bc of recruiting. You don’t do this in the middle of camps/recruiting unless it’s a problem. Remember when Saban was extended to be there until Arch was going to be done with school? Almost same timeframe.

Oklahoma is less reactionary and prefers stability. Outside of complete failure, they understand it can take many years to determine what a coach is really capable of. It's that type of mentality which has allowed them to reach the heights they have in the past. This is a continuation of that. It's a proclamation that "we like our guy and he's going to have absolutely every chance to succeed".

Awesome have First heard it from you two reasons why Oklahoma is extending Brent Venables’s contract number one he has transformed that team from an utter chaotic mess. Second reason going into the SEC. They know what they got and they don’t wanna lose him.

Texas and OU hate each other. Texas and A&M rilvary is more like brothers who definitely want to kick the others ass, but there is respect, not hate.

This is good news and was expected. People who question this do not understand the scope of the rebuild he had to undertake and the state the program is currently compared to when Riley left. This was a solid move by OU. BV deserved it for the job he has done rebuilding the program and the trajectory he has put them on.
